AgRisk

Installation and Compatibility Issues

System Requirements

AgRisk is designed to run on computers using the Windows 95, 98, and NT operating systems. An IBM compatible computer with Pentium processor is strongly recommended.

Compatibility Issues

AgRisk versions 1.01 and 1.0 are fully compatible with each other, but not with the earlier beta versions.  In particular, AgRisk 1.01 can read files saved by AgRisk 1.0 but not files saved by AgRisk beta versions.

Installation Problems

If you are running Windows 95/98/NT and have not installed any new Microsoft products recently, the installation program may produce the message

"Setup needs to update system files and cannot continue without it"

and offer you a choice of continuing or exiting the installation program.  If you receive this message, do not exit and instead allow the program to continue installation.  Once the installation completes or ends abnormally, shut down and restart your computer, and run AgRisk installation program once again.

The AgRisk installation program uses the standard setup package provided by Microsoft ®, which is designed to use the latest Microsoft Windows system libraries. It is a general policy of Microsoft to update such libraries with installation of any of its products.  To the best of our knowledge, the setup program copies newer versions of standard Windows libraries (which in many cases already exist in the system) and do not cause any harm to the system.  The system update is not a part of AgRisk and is not initiated by the AgRisk authors.

If you are running Windows NT and do not have administrative rights in the system, setup will not be able to update the system files. In this case you will need to contact your System Administrator.

Currently there are no other known problems with AgRisk installation.
